Chapter 126: Trash Puppies Defend Pink Boss

The warthog stew was gone in record time.

Not a single drop of broth was left. Not one! The hyenas had licked the flat stones so thoroughly that they were practically shining in the firelight. They had never tasted anything so good.

Gou Sheng was lying on his back in the dirt, his swollen belly pointing at the sky, letting out happy, contented little burps.

"Oh, Boss," Gou Sheng whimpered, wiping a stray tear from his eye. "I have never been so full. My stomach feels like a warm rock. You are wonderful!"

Xin Yi let out a soft laugh. She reached over and gently patted Gou Sheng’s scruffy, spotted head.

"There, there," Xin Yi smiled gently, scratching him behind his crooked ears. "I promised you good food, didn’t I? Boss always keeps her promises."

Gou Sheng’s tail started to thump rhythmically against the dirt. He rolled over, suddenly looking at her with an expression of intense, fierce loyalty. The rest of the pack immediately mirrored his posture, all fifteen hyenas sitting up straight and puffing out their scrawny chests.

"You! Tiny female with pink skin! Boss," Gou Sheng declared, his scratchy voice completely serious. "We will never ever eat garbage again. We are your pack now. Let us go with you! We will protect you from the mean Lions and their muscles!"

"Protect the boss!" Er Gou echoed, baring his yellowed fangs at the empty Badlands.

"We bite them! We bite their ankles! We snap their necks!" Da Sha cheered, completely missing the point but matching the enthusiasm.

Xin Yi looked at her new, heavily armed, highly dangerous, incredibly unhygienic army. They were outcasts. Scavengers. But right now, they were looking at her like she was the Goddess Mán Shū herself.

She let out a long, dramatic sigh.

She sure had a way of getting beasts to like her.

"Hmm. Okay, fine," Xin Yi conceded, a smile breaking across her face. "I will be your boss! But if you’re coming with me, there are rules! No eating raw meat off the ground, no biting people without my permission, and you absolutely have to let me give you a bath! Is that fine?"

The hyenas completely ignored the terrifying mention of a ’bath’ and instantly erupted into chaotic cheers.

"Yayyyy! Boss said yes!"

"All hail the Boss!"

The pack completely swarmed her. They didn’t attack, they just crowded around her like a pack of incredibly ugly, overgrown stray puppies. They danced in circles around the crackling fire, yipping and laughing in their manic, high-pitched voices.

Gou Sheng trotted up to her, his tail wagging so hard his entire backside shook.

"Boss is the best!" Gou Sheng cheered to the pack. "She is tiny and pink, but she is Boss!"

"Tiny pink Boss!" Da Sha agreed, happily rolling in the dirt at her feet. "We will never eat garbage again! We are saved!"

Xin Yi couldn’t hold it in anymore. She burst into a fit of bright, bubbling giggles, her exhaustion temporarily melting away as she watched the terrifying predators play tag around the iron pot.

Xin Yi just shook her head, laughing as Da Sha accidentally tripped over his own feet and face-planted into a pile of dry grass.

It was a peaceful moment.

Until the temperature of the Badlands violently plummeted.

The crackling orange fire suddenly flickered and dimmed, as if the oxygen was being sucked completely out of the air. The hairs on the back of Xin Yi’s neck stood straight up.

RUMBLE.

The ground shook so violently that the massive iron pot rattled.

The hyenas instantly stopped playing. Their yellow eyes widened in sheer terror, their tails tucking firmly between their legs as they huddled around Xin Yi, whining pitifully.

"Boss," Gou Sheng whimpered, trembling like a leaf. "Death is coming."

Before Xin Yi could even turn her head, the edge of the crater practically exploded.

"XIN YI!"

Bursting out of the darkness were three of the currently most terrifying entities in the Beast World.

Hei Yan, fully shifted into his massive Black Panther form, his purple eyes glowing with insane, bloodthirsty rage.

Sha Chen, his fangs bared, and his spear poised to strike.

And Qing Lin, half-shifted, his skin covered in dark green scales, his venomous fangs dripping clear, sizzling acid as he launched himself forward.

Trailing right behind them was Jin Xuan, in his golden lion form, letting out a deafening roar.

The Alphas’ eyes scanned the scene.

They saw the dark, terrifying Badlands. They saw the fifteen bone-crushing spotted hyenas crowding tightly around their tiny, fragile mate. They heard the hyenas whining.

Alpha logic instantly computed the situation.

The hyenas are eating her!

"DON’T TOUCH HER!" Hei Yan roared, his massive claws extending as he leaped into the air, aiming to literally tear Gou Sheng’s head off his shoulders.

"ATTACK!" Sha Chen bellowed, pulling his arm back to hurl his spear straight through Er Gou’s chest.

"I WILL MELT YOU ALL INTO ASH!" Qing Lin hissed, launching a terrifying volley of toxic venom straight toward the pack.

"NO!" Xin Yi screamed, pure panic overriding every single ounce of common sense she had left.

These were her hyenas!

Without even thinking, Xin Yi grabbed the glowing Bone of Discipline from the dirt, threw herself directly in front of the terrified, cowering hyenas, and swung the dinosaur-sized femur like a golf club.

"BAD ALPHAS!" Xin Yi shrieked at the top of her lungs.

BONK!

The massive, glowing blue femur connected squarely with Hei Yan’s giant black panther snout mid-leap.

"Ouch!" Hei Yan yelped, his terrifying, bloodthirsty roar turning into a pathetic whine as he dropped out of the sky like a stone, landing face-first in the dirt and covering his nose with two giant, furry paws.

Sha Chen desperately halted his momentum, stumbling over his own boots to avoid hitting her with the spear.

Qing Lin forcefully jerked his head to the side, redirecting his toxic venom so it splashed harmlessly against a nearby boulder, which immediately began to bubble and melt into gray sludge.

"Xin Yi!" Qing Lin morphing instantly, his dark green robes fluttering wildly as he slid through the dirt on his knees. He completely ignored the fifteen trembling scavengers cowering behind her. His pale hands grabbed her shoulders, his eyes frantically scanning her for bite marks. "You are fine? You are not injured? Did they touch your soft skin?!"

"Yes! I am fine!" Xin Yi yelled, using the glowing bone to swat his searching hands away. She glared at the three panting, murderous men, and the massive golden lion skidding to a halt behind them. "Nobody is eating me! We were having a dinner party!"

Qing Lin froze. His eyes slowly dilated as he looked from her completely unblemished face to the massive iron pot bubbling over the fire, and then to the terrified spotted beastmen.

"Dinner party?" Sha Chen repeated, his hair blowing in the harsh wind as he stood up straight, staring at the ridiculous scene in absolute disbelief. "With these... garbage dogs?"

Gou Sheng, who had been hiding behind Xin Yi’s calves, peeked his head out. He saw the terrifying Snake King’s pale hands gripping his tiny pink Boss’s waist, and he got angry!

Boss gave them cooked meat. Boss was generous. The mean snake was touching Boss aggressively.

"Grrr..." Gou Sheng grunted, his patchy fur standing on end as he bravely forced himself to take a trembling step forward. "Stay away from the boss!"

Er Gou and Da Sha immediately joined him, snapping their yellowed fangs and growling. "Hands off the pink Boss! We bite your ankles! We bite you hard!"

"Did that flea-bitten piece of walking trash just threaten me?" Qing Lin hissed, his fangs descending again as he glared at Gou Sheng.

"They called her ’Boss’," Hei Yan groaned, shifting back. He sat in the dirt, rubbing his red, throbbing nose with a pout. "Xin Yi, why did you hit me with a glowing rock?"

"It’s a bone! And I hit you because you were about to murder my new pets!" Xin Yi huffed, crossing her arms stubbornly and standing protectively in front of the hyenas.

Jin Xuan suddenly shifted into his human form. The Lion Prince was completely naked, his linen cloth entirely forgotten in the forest, but he didn’t care at all. He clapped his massive, dirt-stained hands together, his golden eyes shining with adoration.

"The tiny female tamed the hyenas!" Jin Xuan cheered loudly, completely oblivious to the tension in the air. "She is so strong! She is the greatest female! I love her! Mate with me, Boss!"

"Put some clothes on, you exhibitionist feline!" Sha Chen barked, spinning his spear around and pointing it directly at the Lion Prince’s chest. "I will castrate you right now!"

"You do not command me, Wolf!" Jin Xuan roared, thumping his massive bare chest. "I will fight you for the female! I will fight all of you!"

"I will melt you both into puddles and feed you to her new pets!" Qing Lin snarled, rising to his full height. He violently pulled Xin Yi behind his back, shielding her from the naked lion, which immediately sent the hyenas into another protective frenzy.

"Mean snake took Boss! Attack!" Gou Sheng barked, lunging forward to nip at the edge of Qing Lin’s silk robes.

"Don’t touch her!!!" Hei Yan yelled, his panther ears flattening against his head as he dove headfirst back into the fray, tackling Sha Chen entirely by accident.

Dust exploded into the air. Fangs were bared. Roars and manic cackling echoed through the Badlands.

"No! Down! Bad boys! All of you stop it right now!" Xin Yi shrieked, completely losing her mind as the chaos engulfed the campsite. She raised the glowing femur high above her head, her eyes burning with the fury of a deeply exhausted mother.

"I swear to Mán Shū!" Xin Yi yelled, charging directly into the center of the brawl.
